About Us
Milton Keynes Pressings (MKP): Leading Precision Engineering Experts
Established Foundations (1985-Present)
Founded in 1985 as a family business, Milton Keynes Pressings (MKP) are renowned as leading precision engineering experts that have witnessed remarkable growth over three decades. Now employing a dedicated team of over 150 staff members, MKP serves an expansive range of sectors. This impressive expansion is rooted in our unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and innovative engineering and manufacturing solutions, all while remaining a competitive force in the global marketplace.
Historical Roots and Evolution
The origins of MKP can be traced back to 1974 with the establishment of Ryeland Toolmakers (RT), a press tool-making facility. This early foundation in engineering has been vital to our subsequent growth and development. RT initially operated in a modest space within the Old Mill in Stony Stratford, sharing the premises with other burgeoning engineering firms. This period was marked by rapid growth, necessitating several relocations to accommodate expanding operations and a growing team of skilled toolmakers.
Commitment to Quality, Excellence and Engineering
Maintaining our status as a premier supplier in the automotive industry, and various other sectors, requires strict adherence to industry disciplines and accreditations. These standards are not just confined to our automotive dealings but are employed across our entire organisation. It’s through this commitment to quality that Milton Keynes Pressing has established itself as a trusted and reliable partner in precision engineering.
Technological Advancements in Engineering Solutions
As MKP has evolved, we’ve placed significant emphasis on technological advancements within our facilities. We’ve invested in state-of-the-art equipment, including new presses, advanced robotic plants, and cutting-edge machine tools. Moreover, the extension of our laser cutting facility stands as a testament to our dedication to modernisation. These investments have been crucial in ensuring our production processes remain flexible and efficient, adapting seamlessly to the ever-changing demands and schedules of our diverse clientele.
Significant Milestones in MKP’s Expansion
Our expansion over the years is marked by several significant milestones. In the early eighties, an opportunity arose for MKP to delve into production, leading to the acquisition of additional presses and the establishment of a small production facility. This marked the separation of the business from Ryeland in 1985, culminating in the incorporation of Milton Keynes Pressings Limited. The late eighties and nineties saw further expansion, with MKP beginning to supply parts for the Vauxhall Frontera and winning contracts with General Motors, thus enabling us to tender for global accounts.
Adoption of Advanced Manufacturing Techniques
The nineties were a period of continued growth, highlighted by the adoption of Japanese manufacturing techniques such as cellular manufacturing and Kanban systems. These methodologies have become integral to our operational ethos, symbolising our commitment to innovation and efficiency.
Recognition and Awards
In 2001, our efforts were recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Export, the highest accolade bestowed upon a British company by the government. Further recognition came in 2012, when MKP was awarded the General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award, placing us in the top echelon of GM suppliers in Europe and worldwide.
Acquisitions and Developments
The new millennium has seen MKP continue to evolve. Noteworthy acquisitions, such as the assets of Cardale Engineering Limited in 2003 and the sheet metal facility of Maine Office Limited in 2004, have significantly enhanced our capabilities. The purchase of the Maine Office’s assembly plant in 2006 further solidified our position as a comprehensive supplier in the engineering sector.
The relocation of the entire manufacturing facility for the Maine Office to Milton Keynes in 2010 was a major undertaking, particularly the installation and refurbishment of the powder coating plant, which has greatly benefited the entire group.
Looking Ahead: MKP’s Future Outlook
As we move forward, Milton Keynes Pressings remains committed to innovation and excellence in the field of precision engineering. We continue to invest in our facilities, our people, and our processes, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of the industry.
Our journey, marked by continuous growth and achievement, positions us uniquely to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving global market.
